Community-Based Research Program

The Community-Based Research Program (CBRP) supports research collaborations between faculty, students, and community members. Funded projects will include a plan that identifies the program, outlines the research quests, researches tool development, collects and analyzes the data, interprets the results, and produces final outcomes and recommendations. The goal of CBRP is social action for the purpose of achieving social change and social justice.

The CBRP involves one group of 2-3 faculty members and one research student per faculty participant. The faculty and students will engage in their intensive research project during the fall, spring, and/or summer semesters. This award will fund community-based research with the nonprofit community, and allow the group to present their research at scholarly conferences and publish their research in a peer-reviewed journal. Proposals from groups of faculty from different disciplines and/or schools especially are encouraged to apply.

The Provost's Office will provide stipends for the faculty and students, as well as a supply fund based on the needs of the project.

Each interested faculty group should submit a 3-5 page proposal indicating the following:

  1. Who will the faculty participants be? Student names do not have to be provided at this time.
  2. Identify the possible community partner(s) (i.e. Habitat for Humanity) and/or the population or social issue they wish to address.
  3. The general topic that the group will address.
  4. How that topic engages the community-based research group with the nonprofit community?
  5. Briefly indicate the plans for meeting as a group during the timeline of the project (see revised program timeline below).
  6. Detailed budget, if needed. NOTE: Course release is not available through this program.
  7. How does this project attempt to fulfill the goal of social action for the purpose of achieving social change and social justice?

Please submit proposals, a current C.V. for each participating faculty member, and a letter/email of support from your divisional/school dean through the Internal Research Programs - Application Form by February 5, 2025. Funded projects will be expected to complete the Internal Research Report Form by August 15, 2026.
